The Girls’ Leadership Empowerment through Education (GLEE) project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented in Mali in the regions of Kayes and Mopti. This important project helped reduce barriers to quality education in a safe and supportive learning environment for girls and adolescents aged 10 to 18 while increasing the adoption of positive and healthy behaviors. CPHDA worked under the leadership of the American Winrock International Organization to achieve project results at the community level. The GLEE project
set up Accelerated Schooling Centers (CSA) for out-of-school and out-of-school adolescent girls; trained teachers and School Management Committees (CGS), Mothers’ Associations (AME) to improve learning, transparency and accountability, and worked with parents and members of the community to improve the quality of education and support girls’ access to learning. The GLEE project took a holistic and collaborative approach, mobilizing local networks of youth, extended families, community mentors, school principals and community members. This important project in the field of schooling and keeping girls in school ultimately made it possible to achieve the following results:
